Introduction
Some time ago I tried the MTC Optics Viper 6-24×56IR SCB and I didn’t like it at all, apart from the reticle as you can read on this site. This year I got interested in HFT and was looking for a suitable HFT scope. So when I got the opportunity to buy a Viper 10×44 from a friend (thanks Peter), I didn’t hesitate.

Optics
The most important thing a scope should have is good optics. With this scope eye positioning is critical to avoid a milky image, but when your eye is well aligned behind the scope, you get a nice and clear image. This might even be helpful for HFT as perfect eye positioning will minimize the parallax error. So after the disappointment with it's big brother, I was pleasantly surprised with this scope. And I still like the crosshairs, I think it's one of the best around.

Rangefinding
Ofcourse you can't rangefind with a 10x scope in the same way as with 50x scope, that's obvious. But the SCB reticle allows you to do some bracketing to give you a reasonable estimate of the distance. For example, the center cross of the reticle will fit exactly in a 15 mm hitzone at 15 m, a 25 mm hitzone at 25 m and a 40 mm hitzone at 40 m. There are plenty of marks in the reticle to work out more of this. So I like this scope very much for HFT.
Conclusion
If you're looking for a suitable scope for HFT, the MTC Optics Vipers 10x44 IRS
is certainly worth a look. It's a nice scope for the money.
